The Gateshead Thunder the only professional rugby league club based in the North East asked Sampson Hall to come in and work on their team cohesion. The Club had just come out of administration and were keen to develop their teams on and off the field. Sampson Hall conducted a Strengths, Weaknesses. Opportunities and Threats assessment with all areas of the Club from players to directors and management to fans to gain a thorough understanding and insight of the requirement.Looking at the totality of their output allowed Gateshead Thunder to map out a route to a successful future
The cohesion package consisted of a two day survival experience which really brought the team together in a unique environment. The planning package was delivered to the management team and reviewed regularly throughout the season. At the end of the season the club was one of the very few in Rugby League free from debt and making a profit. Whilst the performance on the field was less fruitful the team cohesion and development hold much promise for the future particularly with some of the youngsters coming through the academy.
The business package was designed to return the club to profit and establish procedures and proceses thet would guarantee a profitable future and generate further internal investment. Sampson Hall mentored the Board through the process.
The Results
Gateshead Thunder went from a club in Administration with a large debt and a 9 point deduction to a club with a turnover of £350,000 with a profit margin of £15,000 for investment next season
